Podcast Question of the Week – Episode 182

“No! Fred! No!”

We know that Rowling originally planned for Arthur Weasley to die earlier in the series, and that she at least considered killing Ron. In the end, Fred took the fall for the Weasley family. It seems Rowling had it in mind from the start that a Weasley family member would die – but why? Why do we think it was so important to Rowling that a member of this critical family die, and do we think Fred was – for lack of better wording – the “right” choice?
