Podcast Question of the Week – Episode 131

Love, particularly motherly love, is a GIANT theme in the Harry Potter novels. Our question this week revolves two of the most prominent mothers in the series – and why they did what they did.

We learn in this chapter about Merope and the circumstances surrounding her demise and death. DD corrects Harry in his assumption that this is so different from Lily’s death, stating that Lily did too have a choice to live yet chose to die. Did either of these women truly have a choice, and if not, does that affect the outcome of their sacrifice, the shadow that H&LV grew up under, and their opinions of their mothers?
